Lake Baikal Tours 2026 — Choose Your Adventure

Lake Baikal is the world's deepest and oldest lake, holding one-fifth of the Earth's fresh surface water. Standing on its shore for the first time, most travelers say the same thing: "I had no idea it was this big." It is not a lake — it feels like an ocean.

Baikal Legends has been running tours to Lake Baikal since 2012. We offer summer and winter group programs departing every Tuesday and Saturday from Irkutsk, as well as individual tours on any date you choose.

Summer Tours to Lake Baikal

Summer on Baikal means crystal-clear water, sandy beaches on Olkhon Island, long sunny days and legendary sunsets. The water warms up to +18–23°C in August — perfect for swimming. Our summer programs range from 3 to 9 days, covering the most iconic destinations: Olkhon Island, the Circum-Baikal Railway, and the Sayan Mountains.

Winter Tours to Lake Baikal

Winter Baikal is a completely different world. The lake freezes to form ice so transparent you can see meters below the surface. Towering pressure ridges, frozen methane bubbles, ice grottos with stalactites — February and March on Baikal are truly unforgettable. This is one of the most unique winter experiences in the world.

Departures every Tuesday and Saturday from Irkutsk. Contact us to book your tour or ask any questions — we respond within 15 minutes.

Lake Baikal — The Pearl of Siberia

Lake Baikal is the world's deepest lake, reaching a maximum depth of 1,642 meters, and the largest freshwater lake by volume — holding approximately 20% of the world's unfrozen surface fresh water. Located in the heart of Siberia, Russia, Baikal is over 25 million years old, making it the most ancient lake on Earth.

Why Visit Lake Baikal?

Baikal is not just a lake — it is a living natural wonder. Its water is so clear that you can see up to 40 meters deep. The lake is home to over 3,500 species of plants and animals, two thirds of which are found nowhere else on Earth — including the famous Baikal seal (nerpa), the world's only freshwater seal.

Whether you come in summer to explore Olkhon Island with its sacred Shaman Rock and sandy beaches, or in winter to walk on the legendary transparent ice with its frozen methane bubbles and stunning blue grottos — Lake Baikal will leave you speechless.

Getting to Lake Baikal

The gateway to Lake Baikal is Irkutsk — a historic Siberian city with direct flights from Moscow, Beijing, Seoul and other major cities. From Irkutsk it takes approximately 1 hour to reach Listvyanka on the lake shore, or 5–6 hours to reach Olkhon Island — the most popular destination on Baikal.

Best Time to Visit Lake Baikal

Lake Baikal is beautiful in every season. Summer (June–September) offers warm weather, crystal-clear water perfect for swimming, and lush green landscapes. Winter (February–March) transforms the lake into a magical ice world — the transparent ice is at its thickest and clearest, and the number of sunny days is three times higher than in Irkutsk.
